This part of Lost in Baja is all about the bike. The 2024 Honda CRF450X.
When Santana picked this bike, it wasn’t about what’s trending or what looks the coolest. It was about what he could trust when things get far from easy.
The CRF450X has been around for a long time and it’s proven itself over and over in the desert. It’s a bike people rely on when they’re deep out there and things go wrong. That kind of track record matters more than anything. Basing experiences and results from Honda factory racing teams in races like SCORES Baja, motorcross and enduro.
Reliability was the biggest factor. Baja isn’t the place to test your luck. You need something that’s going to start every time and keep going no matter what you throw at it.
Parts were another big piece. Being able to find parts or get something fixed without waiting forever is huge. Honda is everywhere, and that makes a difference when you’re not anywhere near home. With the popularity of the brand in other countries (ex. Mexico) you can find oem spec replacements throughout the peninsula.
And then there’s the aftermarket. This bike has endless support. Bigger tanks, better lighting, protection, performance, all of it. It gives you a solid base to build exactly what you need for a trip like this.
At the end of the day, this isn’t just a bike choice. It’s the one we’re trusting to get us through Baja.
